Ţóroddur was the star of Landsmót 2004

Video of the top horses
Kjarnorka from Kalfholt was just absolutely amazing in the fourgait horses yesterday. She danced with great force on the track by Sigurdur Sigurdarsons hand. Kjarnorka was highest after second preliminary, they received a score of 8.75. There is much excitement and amazing views to monitor both the B and A finals in B-class horses. Glódís Rún in first place after the preliminary

The youngest generation is very well ridden. The children did extremely well and it will be fun to watch them in the future. Glódís Rún Sigurdardottir went straight to the first place riding Kamban from Husavik with 8.70, Birta Ingadóttir riding Freyr from Langholt II are in second place with 8.56 and Viktor Aron Adolfsson riding Leikur from Miđhjáleiga are in third place with 8.54.

Today is the first qualifier at Landsmot over, the young riders began the competitionon with impressive performances. Robert Bergmann from Geysir had excellent performance with the mare Brynja from Bakkakoti they received a score of 8.67, and Gustaf Asgeir and Naskur from Búlandi are in second place with 8.61 and Birgitta Bjarnadóttir and Blika from Hjallanesi 1 in third place with 8.52 . Landsmót then and now
Last year marked the 60th anniversary year of the Icelandic Horse Festival, Landsmót. Because of a horse epidemic that raided Iceland last year the planned show for the year 2010 had to be cancelled. Instead the 19th Landsmót will be held in Vindheimamelar, Skagafjörđur this summer, from June 26th till July 3rd.

Jóhann and Hnokki did it again!
World Cup 2011
Jóhann and Hnokki frá Fellskoti did it again as they once again won the T.1 competition at World Cup in Odense Arena in Denmark. Six amazing horses had found their way into the A-final, and the level was amazing! However, no one could reach Jóhann and Hnokki on their way to the top as they ended with a score of 8,67! Number two was norweigian rider Nils-Christian Larsen on Losti frá Strandarhjáleigu with a total score of 8,28. See the results from the final and video clip.

Ósk from Íbisholl is dead
The great breeding horse Ósk from Ibisholl is dead.  Osk was found dead out in the pasture right before Christmas.  She got stuck between mounds and was not able to release herself.  Ósk got 8,37 points as total rating when she was at a breeding show at the age of 5.

Close to 1100 horses exported this year
A total of 1064 horses have been exported from Iceland so far this year. Most of them have been exported to Germany, or 381, to Sweden 181 and 167 to Denmark. The horses have been exported to 15 different countries. A few more horses will be exported before the end of the year so the final number might rise a little.

2011 will be another exciting year for the Icelandic Horse world, with the World Championships of 2011 being held in St Radegund, Austria. Of course it was disappointing that the Landsmót of 201, as the major event that takes place on Iceland every other year, had to be cancelled, but the focus is now on the World Championships.

An update on the status of the respiratory disease
The upper respiratory tract infection epidemic in the equine population in Iceland is now declining. By the time the first cases were reported in the beginning of April 2010, it became apparent that the disease was widespread throughout the country and that an epidemic could not be avoided. The infection has now cleared in the majority of riding horses and free roaming herds. Foals appear to have been more susceptible to the infection during late summer and autumn.

Breeding awards 2010
The annual breeding awards were presented yesterday at the horse breeding convention in Hótel Saga Reykjavík. Fourteen farms were nominated for the "Breeder of the Year" award and the prize this year went to Bergur Jónsson and Olil Amble in Syđri-Gegnishólar, South Iceland. Bergur and Olil are both well known breeders and riders and before they moved to Syđri-Gegnishólar they bred horses from both Ketilsstađir and Selfoss. They had tremendous success this year and were sure winners of the prize.

First Vídalín offspring is getting attention
It´s always exciting when young horses show their potential at early age and by doing that making owners and fans around happy. One of those youngsters who proved to everybody close by what she was made of from day one is Hnota frá Stóra-Vatnsskarđi a 2-year old mare out of Vídalín frá Hamrahóli and Víđja frá Stóra-Vatnsskarđi. Hnota is very beautiful with elegant confirmation. She shows all gaits in great tempi and with lots of suspension and it will be quite interesting to keep an eye on her in the near future. FEIF will focus on World Championships in 2011
After the decision of our Icelandic member associations LH and BÍ to cancel Landsmót 2010 due to an infectious horse disease, FEIF has been involved in the discussion about an extra Landsmót in 2011. Landsmót and World Championships are the two biggest events in the Icelandic horse world. They are organized every two years, the first in the even years, the other in the uneven years. They are both part of the yearly rhythm and holiday plans of many Icelandic horse friends. The decision in Iceland to organise an extra Landsmót in 2011 doesn''t fit to this.

Total score for Ţora was 8.72
Ţora frá Prestbae with her rider Ţorarinn Eymundsson made a sensational appearance at the late summer show in Vindheimamelar. In the first round she scored 8.99 for gaits with as many as 3 times 9.5 ( trot, pace and willingness) The total score for Ţora was 8.72. 
With this score she joins the exclusive group of super performing mares as Raudhetta frá Kirkjubaer and Lukka frá Stora-Vatnskardi.

Outbreak of an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection in Icelandic Horses
An epidemic of upper respiratory tract infection has now been affecting the Icelandic Horse population in Iceland for three months. It is characterized by nasal discharge, dry coughing and laryngitis (swollen throat). The first cases were reported in early April 2010. In the following days it became apparent that the disease was already wide spread and that an epidemic could not be avoided.

Tickets 2010 will of course be refunded
Due to the ongoing infectious upper respiratory disease in the horses in Iceland for the last few weeks, Landsmót has been postponed.  At a meeting today with all major stakeholders, the Ministry of Fisheries and the Vetinary authorities of Iceland the wish to held Landsmót in year 2011 was expressed by all attendees. Therefore, Landsmot and LH have requested further discussions with the representatives of FEIF to discuss a suitable solution for having Landsmót in year 2011.

EU RECOGNISES WORLDFENGUR AS THE FIRST DIGITAL HORSE PASSPORT
WorldFengur has the honour of being the first database recognised by the EU as holding digital passports. The EU requires that passports are issued for all horses in countries that export horse meat to EU countries. Training of youngsters
We have been very busy lately training young horses in the age of one to three years old.  This training is very important, especially here in Iceland where horses generally grow up in huge pasture mostly without interaction with humans.  Those horses are taught to respect the human being, basic manners such as carrying a halter, stand tied and lead.  If they are old enough we stick a bridle in their mouth and a saddle on the back of big three year olds.

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of Landsmót held in Skagafjörđur on May 7th with the veterinarian of horse welfare, the decision was made to keep the preparation of Landsmót fully ongoing, despite the infectious cough that has been spreading out among the horses in the country.

Top candidates at Árbakki horse farm
„We are hoping to show about 15  - 20 horses in the qualifications for Landsmót. All of them are very strong candidates and hopefully they will go all the way. The next few weeks will however tell if the training has worked out and how these horses will perform in the upcoming breeding shows and competitions,“ says Hinrik Bragason, known horse breeder and trainer at Árbakki horse farm, nearby Hella in the South of Iceland.

Ís-landsmót - a horse riding competition on ice
A one day event with the top riders on their best horses
The annual Ís-landsmót competition is held on the icy lake of Svínavatn, which is around 25 km from the town of Blönduós.  Many of Iceland’s top riders compete on their best horses in classes A and B, as well as in Tölt. The event lasts a whole day – in 2009 there were around 110 riders competing, on a total of around 170 horses.

Now it‘s possible to see the sale show in whole that was held in Hestheimar last weekend. The sale show was broadcasted live on www.hestafrettir.is and about 40 good horses were registered for sale, a lot of 1st prize mares and stallions, competition horses and good riding horses.

A clean horse sport
Once more, sport with Icelandic horses has shown to be a clean horse sport. All 20 doping tests taken at the World Championships 2009 in Brunnadern (CH) proved to be negative, which means: no doping. In total around 160 horses participated.

Registration for the sales show in Rangarholl 28th of August
Registration has now started for the sales show that will be held in Rangarholl, Friday the 28th of August. Sudurland competition in horse sports will be held at the same time in Gaddstadaflatir where the sales show will be held in the end of the competition on Friday or at 19:00. Trial breeding show on a round course and straight track
In Gaddstadaflatir on Saturday morning the 15th of August between 9:00 and 12:00, a trial breeding show will be held where the round course will be used partially. Breeding shows of Icelandic horses have until now only been on straight tracks, limited tracks, 230-260m long.

The Icelandic beer ride master, Kristjan Jonsson
Summer festival in Hella
This is the first time that a so called beer ride is held here in Iceland. This competition is based on riding a time track with all kinds of obsticles in the way like riding around a barrell and riding through fences. Last but not least, the rider has to hold a full can of beer (light beer) without spilling.

FEIF Feather and other prizes
World Championship in Switzerland
Gudmundur Einarsson got the FEIF Feather prize this time. Gudmundur competed for Sweden at the World Championship. The judges of the tournament chose the rider that had shown the best riding ability, sportsmanship and a good role model.
The Icelandic team got a special bronze statue for the best performance. This is a new tradition that is here to stay. Einar Oder, the manager of the Icelandic team received this prize on behalf of the team.

Johann R. Skulason and Hvinur the World Champions in toelt T1
World Championship in Switzerland
It was no other then Johann Skulason and Hvinur from Holtsmuli who won the A-finals in toelt T1 with the total of 8,78. The crowd went crazy when Hvinur ran the course. Thorarinn Eymundsson and Kraftur from Bringa came from the B-finals and ended in 2nd place with 8,22. The third was Asta D. Bjarnadottir –Covert on Dynjandi from Dalvik with 8,16.

Tina Kalmo Pedersen and Kolgrimur won the A-finals in Toelt T2
World Championship in Switzerland
 The World Champion in toelt T2 is Tina Kalmo Pedersen from Norway and Kolgrimur from Slatterna with 8,34. Runa Einarsdottir and Freyr from Nordsternhof came in second but Runa and Freyr were very close to the title before the loose rein part but Tina and Kolgrimur were better.

Tania Olsen the World Champion in 100m pace P2
World Championship in Switzerland
The World Champion in 100m Speed pass is the Dane Tania Olsen with the time 7.44. In second place was the young rider Valdimar Bergstad on Orion from Laekjarbotnar and Bergthor Eggertsson on Lotus from Aldenghoor, both with the time 7.47. This is a great result for the young rider Valdimar as he has 3 World Championships of young riders now.

World Championship in Switzerland
It was Lena Trappe and Vaskur from Lindenhof who won the A-finals in 4 gait with 8,10 in total. The second was Lucia Koch on Jarl from Midkriki with 7,84 and the third was Nils Christian Larsen and Reyr from Dalbaer with 7,60. This was a very hard competition where Nils was number one until the fast toelt was ridden.

It was Stian Pedersen and Tindur from Varmilaekur who won the A-finals in 5 gait with 7,69 in total. Daniel Jonsson and Tonn from Olafsberg were the highest into the A-finals but they ended in 6th place as Tonn didn‘t trot as he‘s used to. Runa Einarsdottir and Freyr from Nordsternhof came in second but were in 3rd place into the A-finals. Stian and Tindur won the B-finals and had a fantastic show in the A-finals so he jumped from the 6th place to the first.
